The American Indian beauty pageants started back at the earliest in
the mid 1950's with the first Miss Indian America pageant held in
Sheridan Wyoming. In the 1970's and 80's across Indian Country
many pageants were held.
The Indian National Finals rodeo implemented "Miss
Indian Rodeo" in the early 80's. At the National Congress of
American Indians you will find a beauty queen with the title of
"Miss NCAII" along with Miss Navajo Nation, Miss Yakama
Nation, and several other tribal queens.
Several readers have asked when the next Miss Indian Rodeo pageant will
be held? Once we hear from INFR and regions about a
pageant we will update this page and inform our readers.
Perrie Whidden is the last Miss Indian Rodeo, there has been no pageants
held since her coronation in 1997. We hope to see a new Miss
Indian Rodeo America, selected at the next INFR Miss Indian Rodeo
pageant.

Since our visit to INFR this year, Indian Rodeo News has received
several inquiries about Indian Rodeo queens being recognized. We
are expecting more photos from current reigning rodeo queens who
represent a rodeo.
A group of volunteers will be holding a rodeo queen clinic in the spring
of 2003, this will be open up to Indian girls who want to learn more
about competing in rodeo queen contests. More information
will be
provided once the instructors and sponsors decide when and where they
want to hold this clinic. Our goal is to promote local
Indian girls who are horsewomen, and want to learn more about competing
in state and national level pageants in the United States and
Canada.
Please email us with your profile and picture. We
encourage all rodeo queens to submit something for future young Indian
ladies who would like to become a rodeo queen or princess and we all
know that starting out as a princess is good experience. Rodeo
