Native Youth

This is a brand new page added to Indian Rodeo News.  Our goal here is to recognize all Indian children and teenagers who ride horses, rodeo, ranch, and kids who participate in taking pictures at events.

Each month starting with December 2002 we will try to feature a Indian Youth who is active in riding horses, rodeo, ranching, and photography.

Do you know a Native Indian Youth who has worked hard to achieve their goals and accomplishments?  Would you like to be featured as a Native Youth role model?  Any Native youth ages 18 and under can be featured.

Indian Rodeo News asks for you to send in your story about yourself, who inspired you to ride, rodeo, ranch, etc.     We welcome as many pictures you have to share with our readers.  Email your questions and or story to
Gina@indianrodeonews.com

Family- Dad-Warren Spencer JR Sisters- Kathryn, Sarah, Brothers- Ryan, Cory

Tribe: Rock-Creek/Klickitat/Yakama

My responsibilities- I go to rodeos not just for my self but to support my friends in there events of bull riding, wild horse racing, bronc riding....

What achievements have you made in in your event you compete in or activities you are involved in? I over came the fear of getting on bulls, and help my friends that need the encouragement to ride

What are your future goals in your events you participate in? My goal is to improve on consistency, form, and make more 8 second rides

Who is your ultimate hero? Chris Shivers

Within the rodeo world: Who is your ultimate favorite Cowboy and or Cowgirl? Chris Shivers

What is your favorite Movie?  8 seconds

What are some of your favorite songs or musicians? The Game-50 cents

What do you do, to help them? Encourage them, give support, share my gear, with other guys that need to use it.

What are your plans after graduation profession? Make it to the PBR

Do you plan on attending to College... Undecided-as of yet

If you could give advice to another Native youth on how to get started doing what your involved with, what advice would you give them? I would tell them what I know, and how I handled it, to over come the fears, and the basics of riding. And if they needed to use my gear, I would loan it to them

If you had one wish, what would it be? Go to PBR finals

What would you do to educate others about being a Native American Youth from your Tribe?
(tell them about my culture, our Tradition, Share music with them, etc..)
I would tell them about, my culture, cause I come from a Salmon Tribe, I practice our Tradition of catching Chinook Salmon, me, my Dad/uncle and cousins, fished for our Longhouse for the feast. I hunt, My Grandparents & Dad tell me the important stuff to respect the River ( Columbia ), Water, Salmon, Deer, and Mountains. I'd share this of what I was taught, with them if they wanted to learn how to fish & hunt.

Indian Rodeo News would like to thank Warren III, his Dad Warren II" for taking the time to put together his story.   Warren serves as a role model for other Native Youth who are interested in following his footsteps.   We are sure to see more of Warrenl competing and winning in the rodeo arena!
